In this documentary, we investigate 5 of the most bizarre and unsettling internet mysteries ever discovered, from an unexplained television signal hijacking to mysterious coded messages and an anonymous puzzle that attracted some of the world’s most skilled codebreakers.
We begin with the infamous Max Headroom broadcast hijacking, when someone interrupted two Chicago television stations in 1987 and appeared on screen wearing a distorted Max Headroom mask. The intruder was never publicly identified.
Then we explore Marovian Parallax Denigrate, a bizarre wave of meaningless Usenet posts that became an internet mystery after researchers began searching for hidden meanings behind the strange text.
Next comes Lake City Quiet Pills, one of the internet’s most controversial mysteries, involving an obscure website, strange online messages, and theories connecting it to international espionage. Much of the story remains disputed, so this case is presented with that uncertainty in mind.
We then investigate A858, the mysterious Reddit account that spent years posting seemingly encrypted sequences. Some puzzles were eventually solved, but the ultimate purpose of the project remained unclear.
